It’s a fan favorite—Disney Night! It was the first night of the two-night DWTS Disney Night event on Dancing With the Stars: Juniors on Sunday, October 21, which featured the third elimination of the season!
As always, here are Paul Bentley’s thoughts and scores for the night, along with The Readers’ Scores, as determined by you in a poll!
Disney Night Dances
The nine remaining couples performed dances to themes of various Walt Disney movies. And at the end of the night, another team was eliminated from the show.
[Order of the Judges’ Scores: Val Chmerkovskiy, Mandy Moore, Adam Rippon]
Sophia Pippen and Jake Monreal, Mentored by Sasha Farber
Samba
Eliminated- 9th Place
Poor Unfortunate Souls from The Little Mermaid
The Judges’ Scores: 7, 6, 6 (19/30)
The Readers’ Score: 7
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: I digged the villainous theme of this Samba, even if Sophia’s Ursula frown could have had a little more pizazz to it. Overall, it was clear that Sophia was working hard to get the tricky timing right, but it came off as a bit broken at times. I don’t blame her, though, since Sasha gave them a pretty advanced routine. It was a cool and intense performance, along with a cool underwater graphic at the beginning of the dance! This team was such a joy to watch in these three short weeks, so it’s a shame that we aren’t going to get the chance to get to know them better since they were eliminated.
Paul Bentley’s Score: 6

Mackenzie Ziegler and Sage Rosen, Mentored by Gleb Savchenko
Contemporary
Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas
The Judges’ Scores:9, 9, 9 (27/30)
The Readers’ Score: 9
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: This Contemporary number was more up Mackenzie’s alley, and it showed. Everything from Mackenzie and Sage’s similar dancing abilities to Gleb’s refreshing choreography was on point. For young people, these kids are really good at showing authentic-looking emotion! Now, as good as this piece, I do feel the need to nitpick it because Mackenzie is sort of at an advantage compared to the rest of the couples, considering she is older than the other kids, plus she does have a background in dance. While I do find Mackenzie’s footwork to be excellent, she still feels a bit heavy on her feet at times. Just like last week, it feels like she dances from her upper body, and treats her lower body more as just extensions rather than extensions connected part to her core. But again, she’s an amazing dancer, and her technique is stellar.
Paul Bentley’s Score: 9

Ariana Greenblatt and Artyon Celestine, Mentored by Brandon Armstrong
Samba
Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride from Lilo & Stitch
The Judges’ Scores: 9, 8, 8 (25/30)
The Readers’ Score: 9
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: Ariana and Artyon did it again! I love watching these two so much. Not only are they really good dancers, but they are such great performers, too! The Samba footwork and hip movement were the real stand-outs of the performances, along with that limbo pole creatively added to the end by Brandon. XD I think Ariana had a bit of trouble with the timing, but like I said for Sophia’s Samba, I commend these kids for even being able to do the Samba so early in the competition. This week, I noticed Ariana and Artyon a bit disjointed from each other, which I don’t usually see from them, but I think it’s just the nature of the dance that caused that.
Paul Bentley’s Score: 8

Mandla Morris and Brightyn Brems, Mentored by Cheryl Burke
Jazz
Un Poco Loco from Coco
The Judges’ Scores: 7, 7, 7 (21/30)
The Readers’ Score: 8
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: I love how this Jazz number that Cheryl put together was sort of an homage to traditional Spanish dancing, with elements of Flamenco, Paso Doble, and even Mexican Mariachi thrown in there. Mandla and Brightyn had the appropriate posture and fun intensity needed to make this performance feel authentic, and it all just felt like a fun fiesta! I think Mandla needs to work on stiffness in the core of his body, because sometimes the strength in his core was a little too solid. I would just like to see him dance a little more loose like Brightyn was in this routine. And I think he will get there!
Paul Bentley’s Score: 8
#TeamCheryl
Miles Brown and Rylee Arnold, Mentored by Lindsay Arnold
Charleston
One Jump Ahead from Aladdin
The Judges’ Scores: 9, 9, 9 (27/30)
The Readers’ Score: 9
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: This. Was. So. Showstopping! Rylee is such a hardworking pro, and she dances just like her sister! The entire performance of this routine was anything but dull! This was by far Miles’ best dance thus far in many aspects. He kept up with all those Charleston steps Lindsay threw in there, and he did so with such a musicality to him… he danced like a pro! This is what I would consider to be a perfect routine, so I wonder why it didn’t get at least one 10, but I guess maybe the judges just want to save their 10’s for later, which I guess makes sense as long as they stay consistent. But no matter what score I think this should have gotten, it was the standout performance of the night for me!
Paul Bentley’s Score: 10

Alana Thompson and Tristan Ianiero, Mentored by Artem Chigvintsev
Foxtrot
Something There from Beauty and the Beast
The Judges’ Scores: 7, 7, 7 (21/30)
The Readers’ Score: 7
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: This is what I have been waiting to see from Alana. The past two weeks, I felt as though Artem could have pushed Alana a little more with the choreography, but with this Foxtrot, he gave her content that challenged her more. I liked seeing more technique from Alana, especially with the poise and flowiness that is so different from her other two dances. That being said, her frame needs to be sturdier, and she needs to work on her timing, too. She was a bit off when the troupe was brought in, and because everyone was standing side-by-side, it was obvious. I hope Alana and Tristan continue improving, because even though I would say Alana isn’t quite up to the level of a lot of the competition, she is still having personal growth, which is what the show is all about!
Paul Bentley’s Score: 6

Sky Brown and JT Church, Mentored by Alan Bersten
Contemporary
How Far I’ll Go from Moana
The Judges’ Scores: 8, 8, 8 (24/30)
The Readers’ Score: 9
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: I just can’t get over how adorable these two are together! Once again, Sky and JT sold it… but even more so this time! They emitted pure joy in this Contemporary, and that’s exactly what Disney Night is all about! Sky brought out the spirit of Moana, and she had a good mix of hard-hitting and delicate movements, too. She and JT could have matched each other a bit more in their side-by-side sections, but that doesn’t really look too bad in this particular dance style. I love Team Alan so much, and I find myself anticipating their performances every week!
Paul Bentley’s Score: 9
#TeamAlan
Jason Maybaum and Elliana Walmsley, Mentored by Emma Slater
Foxtrot
You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story
The Judges’ Scores: 8, 7, 7 (22/30)
The Readers’ Score: 7
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: This was Jason’s first ballroom dance, and it was nice transition from his other high-energy dances to this calm and smooth Foxtrot. Toy Story was a cute theme for Jason and Elliana to portray, which overall ended up being a sweet and refreshing routine. Jason was more stable this time, especially in hold, but his head was tilted too high, and he ended up being a bit pedestrian in one section in particular. In the end, though, I thought Team Emma did a good job of showing us they have a lot more in store for us, and I can’t wait to see what they have to bring later in the competition!
Paul Bentley’s Score: 7
#TeamEmma
Akash Vukoti and Kamri Peterson, Mentored by Witney Carson
Jive
Zero to Hero from Hercules
The Judges’ Scores: 7, 7, 7 (21/30)
The Readers’ Score: 7
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: I really appreciate Akash stepping out of his comfort zone every week and giving it all on the dance floor because he is not a performer, and even though he is visibly nervous during his dances, he still gives a hundred percent in all of his performances! With that being said, this Jive was unfortunately messy at times. He definitely put lots of energy in his feet, but they need more control. I think what might have happened was that Akash messed up towards the beginning, and it tripped him up later in the dance. I still found this a very charming dance, especially with the humorous choreography Witney gave them. I think Akash and Brightyn had a good performance this week, but I do have to admit that I think they’ve done better.

Disney Night Awards
Most Entertaining Dance: Sky and JT’s Contemporary
Sky and JT’s Contemporary made me so happy! They gave a solid performance, really selling it with their adorable connection with each other!
Best Costumes: Alana and Tristan’s Foxtrot Costumes
Alana and Tristan looked very elegant in their Beauty and the Beast costumes. They were elegant and gave off a nice, wintery feel.
Best Choreography: Miles and Rylee’s Charleston
Lindsay packed a lot into that 60-ish second routine! The use of the troupe, props, and innovative Charleston content made Miles and Rylee’s dance stand out!
Strongest Couple: Mackenzie and Sage
Mackenzie and Sage is arguably the strongest pair in the competition right now, which makes sense since Mackenzie already has a dance background. But, nonetheless, their styles of dancing compliment each other.
Most Improved Child Celebrity: Miles Brown
Miles kept up with Rylee in that really fast and really challenging Charleston! He becomes one with the music, and he performs with the utmost acting abilities!
Stand-Out Moment of the Night: Artem Giving Alana “Etiquette Training”
It was just a short little segment of their video package, but the “Etiquette Training” with Artem in Alana was cute and funny. And it showcased how Alana is just being herself, and that is perfectly okay!
Furthermore
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: Disney Night was great for the juniors. They genuinely seemed excited about portraying different Disney characters, and that excitement showed! I wish Sophia and Jake would have been eliminated on a higher note, but they still had a memorable performance nonetheless. Halloween Night seems like it’s going to be another fun night for the kids, so I can’t wait to see what the teams bring for it!
