From the Skybox (Season 25, Week 9)- It's Getting Real!

It is coming close to the end of the season, and that means that our fantasy games and thoughts on the dances will be over for the season soon, but there is still one last From the Skybox post before we find out the winners of this season!

BallasIsBack (@dwtstalentstan): Do you think any of the celebs have plateaued?

Julia I really hate to say that about anyone, but it’s something I have noticed a bit this season. I think Victoria plateaued very early on (though considering her limitations it might say a lot about Val as an instructor that he managed to get her to her peak level so quickly). I think everyone else has either been on a rocky road or climbing a hill upward.

Dwtsdreams I agree with Julia that Victoria plateaued before she was eliminated last week. Her best dance was week 2 as she was filled with power and intense passion. As the weeks went on, her technique decreased until last week. Her Contemporary and Charleston had the spark I saw Week 2.

Bentley It’s kind of common for celebrities to plateau at some point, especially if they come out of the gate with some eye-catching and advanced dancing, but I don’t see it as much this season I have in past seasons. For instance, both Jordan and Lindsey Stirling came out with a bang this season, which would make me think that at some point they would have been repetitive without much room to grow, but they ended up showing us a variety of new things from them every week, which kept things interesting. Jordan in particular has somehow managed to top his perfection week after week, which, by my own memory and my own judgment, has happened maybe just a couple times on the show before. I am very impressed by this cast from this season, especially with how weak it started, because nearly every celebrity managed to take comments from the judges and grow through their partners’ instruction. Sure, some of them might have had some steps back, but they usually always had breakthrough moments and managed to redeem themselves.

Week 9 MVP Picks
Most Valuable Pro

Bentley Val Chmerkovskiy’s two dances with Victoria were both very notable this week for different reasons. The first dance, their Contemporary (which had the help of Jenna Johnson), was probably the truest out of all the round one dances for the challenge of creating a routine that represents the celebrity. Sure, there were things that I might have tweaked with the choreography, but the story is what really sold it to me. And as for Victoria and Val’s Charleston, that was by far my favorite dance from them. I could tell that Val put in a lot of effort to create choreography that was fit for Victoria, and in doing so, he showcased her newly refined legwork and footwork. Overall, it was a night a pretty stand-out night for Val, so that’s why he’s my MVP pick this week.

Julia Lindsay Arnold did a great job making the song Brother work for an Argentine Tango and a fantastic job balancing paying homage and creating something new with the Proud Mary Jive in the second round. :)

Dwtsdreams My MVP this week is Val Chmerkovskiy. This entire season Val worked his butt of to learn how to play off of Victoria’s strengths and help her success despite some challenges. He held her hand when she was in extreme pain, pushed her when she wanted to get dances right, and celebrated with her when they got 10s. He was an excellent pro this season and that is why he deserves my MVP award!

Week 10, Night 1 Predictions

Bentley It seems highly likely that Drew and Emma will be eliminated during the first night of the finale, so I don’t really see too much of a possibility of anyone else going home. Although I do think that if Drew had a huge surge in votes that will keep him safe from getting fourth place, I feel as though the next one to go would either be Lindsey or Frankie, who, by looking at reactions on social media, both didn’t have very memorable dances for the second round of performances. But I think out of the two of them, Frankie is the more likely one to go.

Julia Yeah it’s clearly Drew. :P

Dwtsdreams Lindsey and Jordan are for sure safe. I think it is clear that Drew is falling far behind and he is probably going to be eliminated tonight. I highly doubt that Frankie is going home but you never know!

Next Week...

This week’s DWTS press release describes what is going down during the two-night finale event for season 25. On Monday, for the first night of dances, former DWTS pro and judge Julianne Hough will be a guest judge! Round one will consist of the couples repeating a dance style chosen by the judges in hopes of improving from the last time they performed it. The styles they were chosen to perform are:

  • Drew Scott and Emma Slater will dance a Paso Doble to Get Ready by Rayelle
  • Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson will dance a Foxtrot to I Won’t Dance by Frank Sinatra
  • Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold will dance a Charleston to Bad Man by Pitbull featuring Robin Thicke, Joe Berry, and Travis Barker
  • Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas will dance a Quickstep to Barflies at the Beach by Royal Crown Revue

Then, for round two, the couples will get creative with the Freestyles round, where anything goes! Here is what they will be performing:

  • Drew Scott and Emma Slater will dance Freestyle to The Ding-Dong Daddy of the D-Car Line by Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
  • Frankie Muniz and Witney Carson will dance Freestyle to Run Boy Run by Woodkid
  • Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold will dance Freestyle to Puttin’ on the Ritz 2017 (Jazzy Radio Mix) by Taco featuring tomX
  • Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas will dance Freestyle to Remember the Name by Fort Minor featuring Styles of Beyond, and Palladio (Medley) by Escala

Then, at the end of the night, the final elimination of the season will occur before the final episode, turning four finalists into three. The remaining three couples will then have less than twenty-four hours to prepare and then perform a Fusion dance for Tuesday’s show. The Fusion dances will consist of the couples having to combine two different dance styles together in one performance.

Also on night two, the final four will repeat a dance that they performed earlier in the season. Plus, the entire season 25 cast will be back to make appearances! Also on the show for special performances include Pitbull and Fifth Harmony ,Alexander Jean, Kelsea Ballerini, Nick Lachey, Jordan Fisher and Debbie Gibson, and Lindsey Stirling and Becky G!

Plus, for the first time ever, the audience will able to vote LIVE during the Tuesday episode online before first, second, and third place will be announced.

So… who will be the season 25 champions?!
