Monday, October 22 was the second night of the two-night Disney Dancing event, following Disney Night on Dancing With the Stars: Juniors. It was also Disney Night on Dancing With the Stars season 27, which featured various Disney-themed routines!
Even though they teased about an elimination throughout the episode, there ended up being no elimination at the end of the night, despite DeMarcus and Lindsay, and Alexis and Alan being put in jeopardy.
With thoughts on the night of performances, here is Paul Bentley, along with The Readers’ Scores, as determined by an online poll!
Disney Night Dances
The nine remaining couples performed dances to songs from various Walt Disney movies. And at the end of the night, it was revealed that there would be no elimination this week.

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: Alexis has been building up to a dance like this! This was an impressive Foxtrot that I would say took a bit of a risk because it didn’t have a large production (and on Disney Night, that is usually key), and it had lots of traditional content! I absolutely loved how raw and stripped down this routine was, which lets us take in Alexis’ beautiful lines. Minus a few rough transitions, this was performance was as smooth as butter and reminded me of when DWTS performances were simpler (in a good way)! Props to both Alexis and Alan on this one!

Viennese Waltz
Gaston from Beauty and the Beast

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: Juan Pablo is the absolute perfect Gaton! As opposed to Alexis’ dance, this Viennese Waltz had a big production, but I liked it for this dance in particular. Everything in this routine just seemed to work, and it was overall really fun! Juan Pablo had an elegant hold and posture, which fully immersed me into the routine. He and Cheryl created the most memorable dance for me, and also had what I would consider the best technique of the night! I love how Juan Pablo is starting to branch out with his dancing style, which is making him refreshing to watch each week!

A Star is Born from Hercules

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: I can’t stop raving about the Disney Night numbers from this week! Minus the part in the beginning of this Charleston where DeMarcus could have picked his feet up more, as well as a section where he could have bent his knees a little more, this was was a really solid routine, which was quick and innovative. The lifts were absolutely amazing, especially that cartwheel lift at the end that was reminiscent of Lindsay's Argentine Tango with Calvin Johnson, Jr. in season 23! Lindsay has proven time and time again how incredible of a choreographer she is, and this is yet another performance that highlights that! DeMarcus nailed the content Lindsay gave him, and even made it look easy! Incredible effort!

When Will My Life Begin? from Tangled

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: Wow, this dance was criminally underscored. Eights? The judges were tearing this dance apart, but I didn’t see anything wrong with it. Len said that it wasn’t spectacular enough for him or something, but what more could we ask for from this number? This was filled with lots of good Jazz content, Evanna and Keo were dancing as one, and they both had a magical Disney tone in their movements. So what was missing? Nothing. I feel like these two have been underscored quite a bit this season, which makes me a bit worried about how long they will last in the competition, but I’m going to stay positive. In my eyes, this was a perfect Jazz performance!

Zero from Ralph Breaks the Internet

The Readers’ Score: 5
Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: First of all, the effects and internet city of this Jive were really cool! Second of all, I think Joe put a considerable bit of effort to try to improve in this dance, but it still fell short. I understand that not everybody is musically inclined, but it baffles me how we are more than halfway through the competition, and Joe is still incredibly off time with almost all of his dances. Like, does he ever dance on time in rehearsal? Anyway, this was a cute dance, but it was still a bit of a mess. I also wasn’t a fan of the overly simple costumes. It gave off vibes of the Ralph Breaks the Internet characters, but they were too plain for my taste. Being that there was no elimination this week and that these scores will carry on to next week, I think it’s safe to say that Joe is going to have a hard time to survive elimination, but with how this season is going, who knows?!

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: This was a good Contemporary and all, but man on man, Mary Lou’s costume looked incredibly cheap. And that beginning section with the sword? It just didn’t fit well into the performance. It was a bit awkward, actually. As for the Contemporary content itself, Mary Lou brought out more nice lines and grace as she has in the past. it was just a bit too bouncy in more than one section, and dare I say a bit choppy when it came to the solo sections. But overall, even though I think this dance was overshadowed by some other dances during the night, it was pretty good!

I Wan’na Be Like You from The Jungle Book

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: I love the acting that John gives in all of his performances! He has such a suave sense of movement, which really fills in all the gaps that there might be in the dance. John and Emma radiated such joy in this Quickstep, and it had quite a bit of content, too! John is a bit “squatty” and somewhat shaky at times, but he hides it well. I love these two are still in the competition so we can see the brilliance that both of them bring to the dancefloor because I think people might have underestimated them at first… but look how well they are doing now!

Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess
Waltz
Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: Alright, we were back to a calmer and more sophisticated Bobby for this Waltz, which I prefer! XD It’s actually sort of adorable to see a sense of Disney wonder in Bobby’s eyes… it’s so wholesome! Bobby is still tight in his shoulders, though, and his extensions have too much force in them, but it’s an improvement. I think he either gets a little too excited or a little too nervous when he dances because some parts of his dancing still looks too frenetic, so he needs to get into the dance some more mentally. In the end, I found this a nice change of pace for Bobby, and I was so glad we finally got to see Sharna as Ariel! :P

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: Oh man, these were more costumes that I was not a fan of. It’s not that the costumes were cheap-looking or anything, but they just did not look right. They were incredibly cheesy. Nonetheless, Milo was still good in hold with Witney, and his swift Quickstep footwork was on point! There were points were Milo was a bit more out of control than Witney with bounces and such, which was mostly a problem in the first half rather than the second half. I think Milo and Witney have proven themselves as a powerhouse couple so far, and I have a strong feeling they are going to make it all the way to the finals, and maybe even take home the win!

Disney Night Awards
Most Entertaining Dance: Juan Pablo and Cheryl’s Viennese Waltz
The production of this dance was fantastic. Sure, it was a very large production, but it worked. Juan Pablo and Cheryl made such great Beauty and the Beast characters, making this Viennese Waltz come to life!
Best Costumes: Bobby and Sharna’s Waltz Costumes
I was not a fan of a lot of the costumes on Monday night because they were either too much or too little. Bobby and Sharna’s The Little Mermaid costumes, though, were elegant and appealing to the eye. Bobby looks his best in formal wear!
Best Choreography: DeMarcus and Lindsay’s Charleston
Lindsay always comes out with incredible choreography for her Charlestons, and with this one, the highlight of it was the lifts. DeMarcus and Lindsay crushed it!
Strongest Couple: Evanna and Keo
The judges might not agree with this, but I found Evanna and Keo to be the strongest couple of the night! They were seamlessly in sync with each other, and their Tangled characters communicated with each other through their Jazz dance in a neat way!
Most Improved Celebrity: Alexis Ren
Slowly but surely, Alexis has been refining her technique, particularly in the ballroom styles. And this week, she showed more awareness in her body than ever!
Stand-Out Moment of the Night: The Juniors Takeover!
It was nice to see some of the DWTS: Juniors cast be a part in so many of the performances from the night. They seemed to have the most fun out of everybody, which makes sense, considering it was Disney Night! XD

Paul Bentley’s Thoughts: So we saw some extra performances during Disney Night, including the long opening number with some of the Juniors cast, Jordan Fisher singing, and Andrea Bocelli and Matteo Bocelli performing a song from Disney’s Nutcracker… and I loved all of it! I haven’t liked a Disney Night this much in a while!
As far as elimination goes for next week, considering this week’s scores are going to be combined with next week’s scores, I think Joe and Jenna going to have a bit of trouble getting enough votes to stay. They have been on the bottom of the leaderboard consistently, and it looks like some other couples are getting the spotlight over them. But if their fans manage to pull another massive voting victory, I have a feeling that Mary Lou and Sasha, or Alexis and Alan could be next, considering how underwhelming you can say they have been compared to the rest of the cast. And I hate to say it, but I think Evanna and Keo might be in some trouble, too, especially if there is a double elimination.
