From the Skybox (Week Four): A Clear Lead and a PSA

For the fourth week of the season, Most Memorable Year Night brought tears, technique, and nearly perfect tens!

Chelsea Quintal joined us in Wednesday's blog post to give her take on the scoring and perception of some of the couples this season on the show. Continuing this week’s conversations, DWTS Dreams, Julia Delbel, and Paul Bentley are here to talk more about the couples and the production. Plus, there is a clear lead in the fantasy scores now, but will that change?

Overall Comments on Most Memorable Year Night

@TheBentleyNinja: I don’t necessarily find this season boring like I’ve seen a lot of people say on social media, but I do have to say that aside from the dancing, there’s not really too much to talk about. Except for Bonner. And that topic has been exhausted for awhile now. I’m not really one for drama, but I want to see a constructive disagreement with the judges or a shocking rise in the leaderboard or something. The only real buzz that we have this season is with Maks’s injury (which I feel bad whenever people get injured on the show anyway), but even that is kind of old news. I’m a huge fan of the dancing and the personalities in this season, but besides that, there’s not really much discussion or debate to be had.

@dwtsdreams: I agree with what Bentley said addressing the topic of social media and having very little to talk about. Besides Bonner, there hasn't been a lot of media attention about this season. It pains me to see only media outlets such as People just talking about Bonner when there is so many other incredible stories that should be highlighted. It is quite frustrating.

@dwtsdreams: Another thing that is not surprisingly still being addressed is Bonner’s sexiness and his and Sharna’s die-hard chemistry. A little PSA to the media: “NO ONE CARES”. It is so frustrating when every week, constants give their all and Bonner is just praised for his sexiness. All he did Week 1 was thrust his hips and he was just so “sexy.” Then Erika comes out does a little “twerking” but at least some content, and is OVERLY SEXY. I am literally going to explode. I HATE THIS DOUBLE STANDARD. I am not even routing for Erika, but this is uncalled for. I know I bring this up every week, but until it stops, I am going to keep bringing it up.

@TheBentleyNinja: One thing that is still being talked about this season is Heather. People are still disappointed that she is on the show because she is a professional dancer, and I’ve even seen people go as far as saying that she should be disqualified from the show. While I do see their point, I think that it’s far too late to just remove Heather from the show just like that. I also think that she has an advantage over the other contestants, but even with her background in dancing, she hasn’t topped the leaderboard yet. And frankly, she might not be as much of a shoe-in in the finale as some people predicted.

@TheBentleyNinja: So as we all know, Disney Night is next week. And while I do love that theme, despite my lack of Disney knowledge, I’m just not feeling the Disney magic this time around. And it’s not just because I have no clue what pretty much any of the songs next week are (see information on next week below). Maybe it’s because I want to see more dancing and less distractions this season because of the wonderful cast that we have, or maybe it’s because I just haven’t seen enough hype for it yet. But maybe Monday will change that.

@juliadelbel: I’m actually happy about Disney Night, since it’ll hopefully bring some much needed lightheartedness to the ballroom. I do find it strange, though, that seven of the songs are from the last decade and then the other two are from 1998 and 1940, respectively. Just an odd combination.

MVP (Most Valuable Pro) Picks

@TheBentleyNinja: I think that Artem Chigvintsev is onto something clever this season with Nancy. I can see that each week, the choreography that Nancy has been getting is becoming progressively more challenging, which is allowing Nancy to adapt seamlessly. Artem also makes it so Nancy is the star of every dance, using background props and the troupe only to make her shine more. It’s hard to create dances that are filled with well-executed content that isn’t repetitive, but still stands out as original and breathtaking. And Artem is doing just that this season.

@juliadelbel: I was very impressed by how Kym Johnson-Herjavec embraced the experience of partnering Mr. T from the beginning to the end, finishing off with a beautiful performance Monday night. I hope to see Kym back on DWTS someday, but for now I wish her good luck with her new studio and other endeavors!

@dwtsdreams: I have to agree with Julia. I was very impressed on how Kym Johnson-Herjavec taught Mr. T and how grateful she seemed for the experience. I was so glad that she came back and I felt like her comeback was very overshadowed by unneeded controversy with Bonner and Heather.  I am so happy she is pursuing other projects and I can't wait to see where she will go!

Elimination Predictions

@TheBentleyNinja: With Erika always being on my radar for elimination lately, I think that next week is finally her time to go. She hasn’t really made too much of an impact on the general audience, and she definitely didn’t move the audience with her Most Memorable Year story as much as a lot of the rest of the cast. So ultimately, I think that the votes are going to fall short for her. And I’m pretty confident about that prediction. But if it is not her eliminated next week, I think that Nick could be next. He’s starting to become repetitive and lost in the shuffle like Erika.

@juliadelbel: I was going to go with Nick but with the amount of worry I’m seeing for Erika I kind of feel like it’s her.

@dwtsdreams: I think Nick still has a somewhat large fan base, and this week unfortunately might be Erika’s week, but I hope Bonner goes.

Next Week. . .

@juliadelbel: We’re getting guest performances by Donny Osmond! And Auli’i Cravalho! And ZZ Ward! And...Donald Duck? And ALFONSO RIBEIRO? (The latter will become the first person to compete, judge, host, and guest perform on DWTS!)

@TheBentleyNinja: All that’s left for Alfonso now is to become a pro!

So as everyone knows, next week is Disney Night, which is probably the most anticipated theme every Spring season! Tom Bergeron also hinted on Monday that future themes will include “a night at the movies” and “boy bands vs girl groups”. Hmmm. . .
