From the Skybox (Week Three): The Tables Have Turned!

Vegas Night had scores ranging from all sixes to mixes of eights and nines! And because of it, along with this week’s elimination, the tables have turned this week for our Dancing With the Stars fantasy draft!

This week, Alison joined us in Wednesday's blog post to give her views on the dances with Julia Delbel and Paul Bentley. And now, here are Julia’s and Bentley’s further thoughts on the show. Plus, here is some information that has been released about next week’s dances!

Overall Comments on Vegas Night

@juliadelbel: I finally figured out where the problem with the tone this season lies: the package editing. It seems the producers are choosing to show more serious clips instead of the more fun stuff I’ve seen on Instagram and Twitter. I hope that changes soon, though!

@TheBentleyNinja: I feel like the video packages should be just a little longer. For some reason they feel shorter than usual this season. They do get longer as the season goes on, though.

@TheBentleyNinja: Because Maks is her original partner, I really want to see him back on the dance floor with Heather. Sure, I love Alan, too, but Alan’s not Heather’s partner. Although we’ve already seen more interaction between Heather and Alan than Heather and Maks so far, and frankly, it might just be a better matchup. Maybe it’s because Heather has gotten to show us more with Alan, and because of that, she has formed a better connection with him in two live shows than she has with Maks in one.

@TheBentleyNinja: Y’know who is starting to get dull on the show, but not quite enough for it to matter too much yet? Nick. I like Nick, and I still see potential in him, but I feel like he’s still a stranger. The same thing could be said about Bonner, but at least he has the showmance thing, and at least people talk about him because of how boring people find him.

@TheBentleyNinja: Random question. Is Bonner retired from bullriding? If not, he really needs to be careful with his neck injury.

MVP (Most Valuable Pro) Picks

@juliadelbel: This week I’m choosing Alan Bersten because of the awesome Tango he choreographed (I think it was him) that was well-suited to Heather’s abilities and really showcased her!

@TheBentleyNinja: This week, Kym Johnson-Herjavec made the transition from Mr. T’s Cha-Cha-Cha and Paso Doble seamless. Not only was the choreography just right for him, but I can tell that Kym was teaching Mr. T everything he needed to know without going overboard. And it made for a golden Foxtrot!

Elimination Predictions

@juliadelbel: I’m seeing a lot of support for Mr. T this week, and the margin to beat Erika or Nick is smaller than he had to get to beat Charo, so I think him staying is entirely possible. He could also get one more vote than Bonner to be safe, but I don’t think that’s happening. With Nick in jeopardy Week 3 and fans rallying to save him, my best guess for next week’s elimination is Erika, and if not her then Mr. T.

@TheBentleyNinja: My prediction remains the same from last week. I think Mr. T will be the next one out, and if not him, I think it will be Erika. Mr. T got the lowest score of the night (along with Charo, who is already eliminated; and Bonner, who seems to be getting just enough votes to get on by), and Erika seems to be getting mixed in with the shuffle. She isn’t a bad dancer by any means, but she just isn’t who everyone is talking about. Either way, I will be at least a little shocked if neither of these two are eliminated next week.

Next Week. . .

@juliadelbel: This Most Memorable Year looks like a really sad and emotional one. I guess that’s fine but I think we could really use a more upbeat theme at this point.

@TheBentleyNinja: Well, if you want an upbeat theme, just wait one more week for Disney Night!

For Most Memorable Year Night next week, the ten remaining couples will perform dances that are personal to them, dedicating them to the a remarkable event or time period or in their lives. Then, another couple will be eliminated.

And according to this week’s ABC press release, these are this week’s dances
  • Simone Biles and Sasha Farber will dance a Viennese Waltz to Good Good Father by Chris Tomlin
  • Bonner Bolton and Sharna Burgess will dance a Foxtrot to Feeling Good by Michael BublĂ©
  • Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko will dance a Cha-Cha-Cha to Express Yourself by Madonna
  • Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater will dance Contemporary to Unconditionally by Katy Perry
  • Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev will dance a Foxtrot to My Wish by Rascal Flatts
